Taking The First Step

The first step is often the hardest.

Have you ever just had no motivation to do…anything? I think we can all relate to feeling overwhelmed by something at work or home—the inbox of emails, stacks of bills, invoices to approve, lists of to-dos, bucket-list goals, complex projects, starting a business. Being the best version of ourselves can be relentless. I’ve found one of the best ways to not get stuck in overwhelm is to break things down.

The importance of pieces.

Just like every cookie is made up of a bunch of ingredients, every task, activity, and goal is made up of different steps. Breaking things down into bite-sized chunks helps us focus. Listing the micro-steps can inspire you to simply take the best next step. One step turns into another, and another, and suddenly this domino effect becomes momentum.

Build trust in yourself.

It’s time. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we are all more resilient and adaptable than we think. Things, people, and circumstances can change at any time, for any reason—including you! So, when you’re in the throes of making a decision and find yourself at a standstill because, “What if?!”…let your gut be your guide. What do you intuitively want to do? Try trusting yourself. See how it feels. Do it again. Build confidence in yourself.

Create a community.

You are not alone. Life isn’t always easy and sometimes we just need someone to talk to who isn’t too busy, too distracted, or too involved to objectively support us when times are tough. If you don’t have one, build a team of cheerleaders, advocates, and experts around you. For example, as a coach, I go above and beyond the role of a friend to give expert advice on how to continue moving forward in life without judgment.

If you’re feeling like you don’t know what to do, can’t move, and want to create change...let’s talk. With a little nudge, I bet you’ll be navigating your journey forward in no time.
