I do my best to run my life and my business through my heart because doing so bypasses those pesky gremlins...you know, the negative voices in your head telling you to stay in your box, even if it is making you unhappy.
Despite the successes I’ve had in my life and the daily effort I put forth to maintain a positive mindset, those gremlins can still get the best of me. Like when I shared my first newsletter and thought, “No one is going to read this.” Or when I post new content and think, “What if someone disagrees?” I don’t think I’m alone in thinking something along the lines of “No one wants to hear what I have to say” or “I don’t have anything important to share” or “Who do I think I am, anyway?”
I’ve found that to find true clarity surrounding what you want to do next, be it in your career or in your life, it’s crucial to listen to your heart and implement techniques to quiet our self-doubts. Because the good, great and magnificent things in life require courage, faith, and confidence. None of which we can feel when we let the gremlins in, who always want us to play it safe, stay small and feel stuck.
Here are some techniques to take action and kick out the gremlins.
- Identify one place in your career or your life where you’re experiencing self-doubt, where you’re allowing the gremlins to win.
- Be brave and bold and do something about it! It’s OK to start small – make it something you can know you can accomplish.
- Reward yourself for taking a step forward – take a nice long walk, read a book or magazine, or maybe even get a massage!
- Rinse, lather, repeat. Remember that your gremlins only control your life if you let them!
