Facets of Success

When it comes to finding a balance between work and life, the professional and the personal, it’s essential to incorporate both worlds into your daily perspective. If you focus exclusively on work, your personal life suffers, and vice versa.

The point being, if you limit your perspective of success to either work OR life, an imbalance will present itself. There are certain elements that act as the building blocks of success and happiness, these being Health, Happiness, Balance, Wisdom, and Relationships.

In reality, success and happiness are different for each individual person, but you can be assured that your success will transcend both your work life and personal life when you invest in these important facets.

Health

Being in good health offers benefits beyond your personal life. At work, success in Health will lead to fewer sick days, less burnout, increased focus, greater profitability, and more energy. Not only that, but you can expect to enjoy a longer and more rewarding career.

Happiness

This has the most obvious application in professional life and needs little explanation. As long as you realize that exclusive focus on any one of these success facets can be problematic, pursuing your happiness is not only good, but great! Just keep in mind that pursuing happiness is also about the pursuit of excellence in other areas of your life.

Balance

This is an important part of every aspect of our lives—our health, our relationships, our work…the list goes on. Burnout is a topic that is often discussed with my clients, and it occurs when you feel overwhelmed and unable to relieve prolonged stress. I truly believe that we are most successful when we are in balance and feeling happy in every area of life.

Wisdom

This facet has a tremendous impact on your business life. With today’s modern economy rewarding innovation and flexibility, this facet is about the continuous pursuit of knowledge and insight. To continually succeed at work and reach your professional dreams, you should constantly expand your skillset.

Relationships

At first glance, you may think that your relationships only apply to friends and family. Not so much! Your business relationships are also an important part of your success. Through your supervisor, colleagues, mentors, customers, and community, you build a network and add value to everyone in that network.

Applying Facets of Success in Your Life

When you take a moment to think about it, the application of these facets of success in your personal life is easy to see. For example, if you focus on happiness too heavily, your family life will suffer. If you neglect your health, all other areas of your life will suffer.

Most importantly, when you live with the intention of creating harmony in all facets of your life, you will not only be more successful, you will be happier.
